Smart Cycling For Kids
Any parent with a kid who has taken our Smart Cycling For Kids riding safety class has the peace of mind knowing their child has been taught the essential road riding skills by an experienced and highly qualified bike safety expert.
Bicycling Skills 123 Youth
Bicycling Skills 123 Youth is composed of 13 on-bike stations that teach children better bike handling skills. Typically, this is a two hour course. We can tailor this to the size and skill levels of your group. All Smart Cycling Bicycle Skills 123 Youth classes are taught by a League Cycling Instructor (LCI).
Kindergarten to 12th grade Smart Cycling We’d all like to see more kids riding to school or just out riding for fun. Modeled on the adult level LAB Smart Cycling this class ensures every kid on a bike has the necessary techniques, knowledge and awareness to ride safely on the streets. After some classroom-based theory and basic bike mechanics, students can go through a series of parking lot drills focused on essential rules of the road, safety, traffic awareness and lane-changing, before moving on to carefully supervised on-street riding. The goal is to instill the confidence and ability to safely handle any pedal-powered commute. Typically, this is a multi-day commitment, normally 1-2 hrs a week running 6-12 weeks for optimum reinforcement. We can tailor this to the size and skill levels of your group. Contact Bike Santa Fe to discuss your desires.
Bike Santa Fe supports Walk and Roll to School Days and Safe Routes to Schools curriculum and has provided classes with The Masters Program, the Santa Fe Indian School and others. We will organize classes customized to the specific needs for schools, scouts, bike clubs and youth organizations. If you are part of an organization interested in hosting a kids class, or just a parent able to round up a group of 6 or more kids, we are happy to work with you!
Teachers at Nina Otero and El Camino Real Academy have begun building bike fleets to integrate into PE programs. Volunteer to assist with these programs. We applaud and support these programs!
